What Is AVODART® and how is it used?

AVODART® is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). AVODART® may be used alone or with other medications. AVODART® belongs to a class of drugs called 5-Alpha-Reductase Inhibitors. It is not known if AVODART® is safe and effective in children.

What Are Side Effects of AVODART®?

The most common side effects of AVODART® include:decreased libido (sex drive), decreased amount of semen released during sex, impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection), and breast tenderness or enlargement.

Seek medical help if you have any of the following: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling in your face or throat, fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, and red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling. AVODART® may cause serious side effects including a higher chance of a more serious form of prostate cancer.
